Ketamine is typically given as a series of intravenous (IV) infusions, troches (lozenges) or as a nasal spray. We offer all options at our clinic.
For IV infusions:
- A typical course for Mood is 5-6 treatments over 1 month followed by 4-5 treatments the second month then monthly as maintenance. Each infusion lasts about 40 minutes. You'll be monitored during and after the infusion with a nurse that is solely assisting in your integration.
- A typical course for Pain is 4-5 treatments over 1-2 weeks followed by a maintenance of usually 1 every 4-6 weeks. Each infusion lasts 4-5 hours. You’ll be monitored during and after the infusion with a nurse 1 to 1 for the first 60 minutes and frequent check ins thereafter.
- Our clinic also offers compounded ketamine nasal spray and troches through Maker’s Pharmacy in Mount Vernon. Injectable is not an option nor is safe for at home use. Your first induction will be at the clinic with one of our trained staff to find the right starting dose and make sure there are no side effects.
What to Expect During Treatment
- You may experience dissociative effects like feeling detached or "floaty"
- Mental health patients may have suppressed thoughts come to light that can then be processed with required psychotherapy
- You'll be awake but may feel drowsy
- Your vital signs will be closely monitored
- Side effects typically resolve soon after the infusion ends
- Side effects will be managed with supportive IV medications such as
- Nausea: Zofran, Phenergan
- Anxiety: versed
- Increase in blood pressure: magnesium and labetalol
- Pain: ketorolac if needed

Rare side effects can include bladder issues or hallucinations. Let your provider know if you experience any concerning effects.
Important Considerations
- You'll need someone to drive you home after each treatment. There are zero exceptions to this rule. Should there be no ride a cab or Uber will need to be arranged at the cost of the patient.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery for 24 hours after treatment
- Avoid any significant or legal decisions for 24 hours after treatment
- Continue taking your regular medications unless instructed otherwise

How do I begin Ketamine therapy
Step 1:
We begin with a FREE screening phone call with our Nurse.
For mental health: a referral form is needed from your counselor or mental health provider if you are not an existing patient of our practice.
For chronic pain conditions a referral form is needed from your pain specialist if you are not an existing patient of our practice.
For both >> a letter of recommendation can be provided to give your counselor or pain specialist to get pre-approval and a referral.
Step 2:
We would then schedule a consult with one of our experienced providers to see if you are a good candidate for therapy or have any medical or mental health reasons ketamine therapy should not be used. During this consult a rapid in office drug test will be completed as well as a pregnancy test if female and within reproductive capability on a monthly basis or at the discretions of the care team.
We only bill Medicare B original so all other patients will have a consult fee which will be 50% off for current members. For those with insurance a superbill will be provided for this consult at no charge.
Labs will be drawn for kidney and liver function if outside labs have not been completed within the last 6 months. Prior labs may be provided to the provider at the time of the consult. An in office EKG may be needed for certain patients. All of these services are available as an add on option to the consult fee. Labs may be billed to insurance at patients request.
CONSULT FEE: $180 (includes rapid drug screening and pregnancy screening where applicable) - 45- 60 min consult
EKG add-on: $25
Lab add-on: $15
